Welcome to the thirty-fourth issue of Black Girl Perfume Club! Let’s dive right in.
Happy Tuesday, dolls. I started writing this newsletter in cold and snowy Cleveland, Ohio, and now I’m basking in a vintage hotel lobby in Hollywood. I went to spend time with family during the holidays and relax in the snow of winter that I’ll never get in LA. Eventually, that started to feel a little old and I was happy to scurry back to the sunshine. Anyway, I missed you all.

2024 Perfume Trends to Watch
Sophisticated Vanilla
I’m the worst person to ask about vanillas, honestly. I tend to avoid them. But if I had to wear a vanilla fragrance, I’d go with this instant classic. Everyone I know who owns ‘Vanilla 28’ by Kayali has nearly used the bottle to the damn bottom. ‘Nuff said. Anyway, Vanilla is popping up everywhere with no signs of stopping.
Accessible Ouds
Oud can be very daunting. It’s not common in mass-market designer perfumes, and the scent in its purest form can be harsh. Thanks to maindepedent (a portmanteau of mainstream + independent) brands like Kayali and Byredo, and even heritage brands like Jo Malone, oud is being introduced to Western markets in a way that could classify them for daily wear. Kayali’s Oudgasm line, Byredo’s ‘Mumbai Noise’ and ‘Oud Immortel,’ and Jo Malone’s cologne intenses like ‘Velvet Rose and Oud’ are testaments to this.
Honey
I have to thank Queen Bey for reintroducing honey to the popular fragrance lexicon again. The few times I’ve made note of honey in a fragrance are in Jean Paul Gaultier’s ‘Scandal’ and Zoologist’s ‘Bee,’ and I was pleased to see it in her flagship ‘Ce Noir’ fragrance.
Coffee
Wake up and smell the brew. Coffee is popping up in a few new fragrances like Tom Ford’s ‘Café Rose’ and Akro ‘Awake’ and I don’t see any signs of this comfort scent disappearing. I predict that Kayali will hop on a coffee fragrance before the year’s end.
Peach
With ‘Peach Fuzz’ taking over as Pantone’s Color of the Year, I’m positive that we’ll start seeing peach fragrances make an appearance this year as well, already starting with Ellis Brooklyn’s ‘Peaches’ body mist. My favorite peach scent is a happily synthetic peach ring candy smell ‘Sunrise Moon’ from Pacifica.
